The Watermill - Sleeps 4/6 plus child
The Watermill is your chance to step back in time with a holiday in Derbyshire’s oldest surviving watermill – without missing out on any modern-day comforts.
|
Brimming with character and charm, The Watermill was painstakingly restored to the highest standards in summer 2008 and now combines luxury fittings and furnishings with many historic features. Corn has been milled on this brookside site since the 1500s and the present mill buildings date from the 1700s. Although milling ceased early in the 20th century, its original fittings and equipment remained untouched for decades. Ancient stonework, a wealth of oak beams and centuries-old millstones and equipment have been incorporated to create an unforgettable interior for this Grade II listed building. |
On the inside, original sections of the wooden mill machinery have been carefully preserved to give a great feeling of the building’s history. Outside, the original wood and iron waterwheels have been restored and are turned from time to time by water fed from the restored mill pond.
Accommodation comprises two double bedrooms each with sofa bed, luxury bathroom, fully-fitted galley kitchen with adjoining dining room, and a superb 30-foot lounge.
Outside is a patio area and ample off-road parking.
